The Results are in for the Aussiesnowoard.com Riders Poll Awards for 2012. In its first year, we were swamped by the huge industry response in what, by the looks of it, is an award initiative that is long overdue in the Australian Snowboard Community.
We wanted the Riders Poll Awards to be legit, thats why we left the decision up to the industry. Riders, Snowboard Brand Reps, Judges, MC’s, Magazine Staff and Shop Crew all had their chance to cast vote on who they thought were Australia’s top Rider of 2012. We wanted to make sure that the winner was NOT about who had the biggest Facebook reach, or who posted more “vote for me” sob stories on their social media outlets. We did however, allow riders to vote for themselves, this was totally up to them. We were absolutely frothing to find that not one rider voted for themselves! The level of respect, peer to peer, in Australian snowboarding is at an all time high, everyone’s stoke on each other’s riding can only be a positive in our respectively small industry with comparison to the rest of the world.
With the only limitation being that you have to vote for an Australian rider, the results showed a massive spread from every resort. A big shout out goes to Billy Hayman, Chris De-campo and Amber Arazny who just missed out on places.
RIDERS POLL AWARDS 2012 MENS
MENS 1st PLACE
RYAN TIENE
Being crowned the biggest of big dogs in Australian Snowboarding by your peers is no accident. 2012 has been a huge year for Ryan that has built up for some time. DC officially drafted him onto their International Pro team, a first for an Australian Snowboarder. He also shot a banging part in DC’s upcoming movie “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.” Ryan returned to riding in Australia and cleaned up the DEW Video battle with his brother Dane. He also dominated the print this year with another sick cover shot in Australian NZ Snowboarding, and one of the raddest interveiws in Transfer Mag. This guy deserves this award more than anyone and we could not be happier with the industry’s choice!

JESS RICH
We are stoked to announce that Jess Rich is the Winner of AussieSnowboard.com’s Riders Poll Awards for 2012! Hell yeah JESS!! Her industry peers voted Jess in the number one spot and we couldn’t be happier for her! You can tell this chick loves her snowboarding- From comps, shooting, or just riding with friends Jess is smiling non-stop. In 2012 She took out Whistlers Showcase Showdown contest, made the finals of the Billabong Throw-Down at Snow Park NZ, only to have pulled out due to food poisoning, (never eat fish n chips in NZ) she also killed it taking out the Thredbo Freeride series. Jess added more magazine coverage to her scrap-book, and held her spot in a couple of rad edits throughout the season. Jess has proven herself as one of the most well-rounded riders and we hope she continues to do what she does!
